The Easter Feria of Arles is famous for its bullfights (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjeSStv5_qQ ) and bodegas. A bodega is a temporary party venue which includes a bar and music and dancing. Some bodegas are in tents, some in courtyards, some in existing buildings that are transformed for the weekend. Trophée des As 2007, Course Camarguaise à Arles Arles, France: October 14, 2007 - The Course Camarguaise is a sport in which "rasateurs" (the men in white) run after bulls in order to pluck off cords that are tied between their horns. They win money and points for each cord they manage to capture. The 'Finale du Trophée des As' was the championship game of Fall 2007, and Loïc Auzolle was the winner. Sabri Allouani, the defending champion (pictured in the video) won second place. La Course Camarguaise: Chasing Bulls in Arles, France "La Course Camarguaise" is a popular sport in the South of France. "Razeteurs" - guys in white shirts with a little razor in their hand - chase a bull around an arena and try to cut off the strings that are tied between the bull's horns. The razeteurs win money / points for each string that they manage to cut off the bull's horns. Most of the time, a razateur runs toward the bull, who charges the razateur, who then jumps over the boards to safety without actually winning a string. In this video, you can watch two practice runs. The bulls horns are capped so they can't pierce anyone, and the razeteurs aren't actually cutting strings off the horns. RIJ Perpignan 2006: Visa Pour L'Image n September 2006, I spent a week in Paris and Perpignan with "Rencontres Internationales de Jeunes" - a culture and arts program sponsored by the French government. I was with a group of 11 amateur photographers from Japan, Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Canada, Israel, and Serbia.
